SCULPT TEAM
We build good homes and have a good time doing it.
Owner / Builder DYLAN
Dylan has been tinkering with tools for as long as he can remember. His dad owned a local concreting company and was also a cabinetmaker, joiner and carpenter, so growing up around the trades came pretty naturally.
Dylan began his career in concreting before moving into landscaping, then joined Airlie Beach Constructions where he completed his carpentry apprenticeship and found his passion for custom architectural homes. During this time, he worked on a number of Chris Beckingham-designed homes featuring New Guinea rosewood, sparking an appreciation for quality materials, craftsmanship and the finer details of a build.
After his apprenticeship, Dylan and his wife travelled and worked throughout SEQ, WA and the NT. Building across different regions exposed him to varying climates, materials, building codes and construction methods, shaping the way he approaches building today.
Now back in the Whitsundays, Dylan brings together local knowledge, experience from around Australia and a genuine interest in finding better ways to build for the tropics.
Apprentice OSCAR
Oscar is the newest addition to the team, starting a school-based carpentry apprenticeship with us.
Dylan first met Oscar at Mitre 10, where he works on weekends, and pretty quickly knew he was someone he wanted on the team. He’s got plenty of drive, a great work ethic and already knows his way around materials, fixings and tools which is a pretty solid head start.
Oscar has already completed his Certificate I in Construction and is keen to keep learning and getting stuck into the practical side of the trade.
We’re looking forward to watching Oscar find his feet in the industry, seeing where his career takes him and, most importantly, being able to play a part in helping him become a great tradesman.
Carpenter Jay (J-Mac)
Jay’s a qualified chippy and a good mate of Dylan’s, with the two growing up together in the Whitsundays.
He’s got plenty of experience on the tools as well as supervising projects, bringing a great mix of carpentry knowledge and site experience to the team.
Since Jay joined the team, we’re not sure Dylan has stopped laughing. He brings plenty of experience to site, but just as much personality.
Jay is also dad to the beautiful Mae Mae, who’s quickly become everyone’s favourite site visitor. We love when she pops down to check out what Dad’s been up to.
Carpenter
Xavier (Xav)
Xavier is our part-time ring-in and Dylan’s brother-in-law. He works full-time as a carpenter with Structured Earth, but if he’s got a day off, there’s a good chance he’ll choose to spend it back on the tools with us.
He’s actually been helping Dylan with projects since he was about 10, starting with the very serious business of guinea pig cage construction.
These days the projects have gotten a little bigger. Xavier is a hard worker, keen to learn and always willing to lend a hand — and we’re more than happy to take advantage of that whenever he’s free.
Carpenter
Connor (Dermite)
Connor was the first to join the Sculpt team, and we couldn’t have picked a better person to kick things off. He’s laid-back, easy to work with and always brings a bit of fun to the site.
He’s incredibly neat on the tools and takes real pride in what he does. On top of being a great chippy, Connor can also tile and waterproof, a pretty handy mix of skills to have around.
Good on the tools, good for a laugh and always willing to get stuck in, we’re very lucky to have Connor on the team.
Building Designer & Interior Design (+ everything else)
Sequoia
Sequoia is our building designer and the person you’ll work with if you need plans drawn for a renovation, extension or new home. She’ll take you from the first ideas right through to the finished design, helping with layouts, materials, feasibility and keeping the budget in mind along the way.
She’ll also work with you on colour selections, finishes, fixtures and all the little details that eventually make a house feel like yours.
Behind the scenes, Sequoia currently wears a few too many hats, working alongside Dylan across project management, administration and accounts while also running her own design studio. As Sculpt grows, we’ll be looking for a few extra hands to take some of those hats off her.
Building Designer
Tanna
Tanna is one of our building designers and works alongside Sequoia across the design side of Sculpt. Sequoia and Tanna have worked together in the past, making the transition between the two throughout your project nice and easy.
Now based in Brisbane, Tanna generally steps in after your initial design consultations with Sequoia. From there, he works with you to develop and refine the plans, nut out the finer details and get everything ready to move into the next stage.
He has a great eye for design and brings plenty of experience across Hamptons, modern Queenslander and contemporary homes, a mix that fits pretty nicely with what we love to do at Sculpt.
Tanna also runs his own design studio, Veil Design, which keeps him working across a variety of projects and constantly bringing fresh ideas and inspiration to the table.
